I love herons and always look for them when we go to the river. Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHe does look odd walking on the ice. I'll bet he's wondering if his decision to not fly south was a wise one!
ReplyDeleteAmazing, Eileen, I never knew that either. Will he survive the winter, do you think?
ReplyDeleteHe is very handsome, great photos. Maybe he heard it was cold down south too.
ReplyDeleteThis Heron woke up late for the trip. And now it wake up too early for the food.
ReplyDeleteLike seeing the herons along the river. This is a nice couple of shots.

ReplyDeleteAmazing shots of that beautiful critter on ice.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your Blackwater NWR photos. We were there last February and hope to return this year.
ReplyDeleteHe looks quite healthy, despite being in the wrong place. I posted a heron shot last week. We don't see that many in NZ, although we do have them.
ReplyDeleteHe looks kinda sad. :( Poor buddy!
ReplyDeleteAny bird walking on ice looks pretty strange to a birder that lives in the sub-tropics :-)
ReplyDeleteI get jealous sometimes when I see birds or other small animals walking on ice so effortlessly. :)
ReplyDeleteWow Eileen, how weird is that? I have yet to see a Great Blue ice skating. Amazing! Great shots of the phenomenon.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I never seen a GBH on ice. Excellent photos!
ReplyDeleteExcellent capture, Eileen! Good thing the ice is still strong enough to carry the weight of the Great Blue.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the great blue. I didn't know they stuck around in icy places.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots of the great blue heron. I love this bird. I also like the shots of the cedar wawing in the post after this. I occasionally have them in my garden and they are so destinctive. All of these are wonderful shots but those two birds are a highlight for me.
ReplyDeleteGoodness Eileen, you do have some wonderful photos!
